The PON architecture assumes that a single optical line terminal, that is, OLT, transmits data to multiple subscriber devices. The data stream from OLT to the subscriber ONT is considered to be downstream, data is sent at a wavelength of 1490 nm. The flow of information in the opposite direction is considered upward and is transmitted at a wavelength of 1310 nm. OLT, as well as subscriber ONTs, have built-in multicomplexers that divide these two streams.
OLT Features
The OLT optical terminal is installed in the telephone exchange. OLT line ports are connected to the ODF cross with optical cords or, in other words, patch cords.
The terminal is equipped with an integrated switch. Connection to the operator network is due to the network interface and 10 GE. OLT has access to a simple circuit-switched system - PSTN, as well as to the Internet. This terminal has access to a provider’s Video resource. Most often, the data transfer speed from OLT to clients is 2.5 Gbit / s, in the opposite direction it is standard 1.25 Gbit / s. Due to the splitter with OLT, a KTV signal arrives at a wavelength of 1.55 μm. Other varieties of data are broadcast on a wavelength of 1.49 μm. Information from user devices arrives at a wavelength of 1.31 microns.
The prices of the OLT optical terminal depend primarily on the manufacturer and the specific device model. Since this is one of the most important nodes of a PON network, the operation of the entire communication line depends on its quality. That's why preference should be given to a trusted brand and a reliable supplier.
